Popati

Popati is a special Konkani food. Very old yet still the same spicy taste. Preparing for a Popati is a very tedious task & one needs knowledge about it. But the Authentic taste one can experience is unmatched & will make it a memory. Popati is cooked, prepared specially in the winter season in Kokan.

Ingredients & Utensils-

Take a medium sized pot and give it a layer of bhamrut grass on the inside. Bhamrut is a small type of grass, found only in the Konkan region. The distinctive smell of this grass brings flavor to the Popti. Now in this pot, add vaal beans, half chopped potatoes and salt and spices, half chopped onions. In between, add salt, spices and Ajwain in this pot. Non-veg lovers also add eggs and chicken. When the pot is full, close it properly.

Then take 2 to 3 bricks and spread them like a stove. Thus keep the fire burning for about 30 to 40 minutes. The heat of the fire and the steam, cook the food inside well. Then slowly remove the pots and remove all the contents. Here you go – The Delicious Popati is ready to enjoy
