Blue Whale Skeleton

On 18th June 2003, the dead body of a giant fish washed ashore near Revdanda beach. The stench of the dead body of this giant fish spread all over the area, so with the help of a bulldozer, a pit was dug in the sand on the sea itself and buried. After about 8-10 months, after all his flesh had fallen off, a skeleton of bones gradually appeared on the surface of the sand. Due to the waves of sea water, his bones also started to spread so much.

Therefore, with the help of Revdanda Gram Panchayat, as well as local people, the scattered bones were collected and the bones buried under the layer of sand were found and brought together. Kai Rajabhau Railkar and Shri Chandrasekhar Patil, knowledgeable persons of this area, have played a valuable role in this work. After several months of painstaking work and some chemical treatment, the skeleton was preserved.
This blue whale was approximately 8 to 9 months old. It was about 50 feet in length and seven and a half feet in height and weighed approximately 23 tons. However, it ranks second in India in terms of size among the collected blue whales. The skeleton housed in the museum at Baroda is the largest and is 65 feet long.
