Some are in the form of pictures and some are in the form of articles, but each of these works of art has a history of hundreds or thousands of years. A short review of the witnesses of such history.

Gadhegal was a threatening warning given by the previous Rajamaharajas to the people of the area to strictly follow the rules and conditions laid down regarding the said land. Often this curse was engraved on the stone to protect the shrines or the immovable property given as a gift and not to be misused by anyone. Sun & moon are engraved at the top which means It will remain eternal as long as Sun & Moon are shining.

Aakshi Inscriptions -
Two inscriptions of Konkan Sheelahar dynasty Nripati Keshidevaraya (1012 AD) and Devagiri Yadav Nripati Ramachandradev (1291 AD) have been found in the historical area of Akshi. These inscription are called "Gadhegal"

A “Veergal” (Herostone) is a stone carved as a memorial or remembrance of a Vira who sacrificed his life for that area. Sometimes the figure of a hero and sometimes battle scenes are also found engraved on these “Veergal”. “Veergal” are found mostly from 1500 to 1700 period. In many places these Veergals are worshiped regularly. “Veergal”, the witness of this historical feat, needs to be preserved.

Murud Khsetrapal Inscriptions -
Dhenugal -
During the period of the Sheelahara kings (year 810 – 1260) Dhenugal was made as a government deed as a written proof of land donation. It has a cow and calf sculpture on it, so it is also called “Dhenugal” (cow-calf sculpture/Shila) or “Govats” sculpture. This stone was used to mark the boundary of a donated village or when land was donated for a specific purpose. During the period of the Sheelahara kings, the text of charity was written on the stones and such stones were made to announce it and to obey the written rules for the subjects. Even today one can see such stones around Alibaug but very rarely one sees a stone with such a cow sculpture. These oblong stones have sun and moon on top. Which means that the law written on this stone will remain binding until the moon and sun exists. The stele here has a crescent moon very prominently on top and a small circular sun carved beside it. Below it is a sculpture of a cow and a calf. The cow is the symbol of the king and the calf is the symbol of the people. It is said that a king obeys his people just as a cow obeys a calf. Some space appears to be left below it. In some places inscriptions are also seen on these stones.
Satisheela -
In earlier times it was customary to go to sati after the death of the husband. If a hero achieved heroism in battle, his wife would follow him. These sheelas were carved in her memory. Moon and sun were carved on the top of this stone. While in the middle space, one of Sati’s hands was carved in a position in which five fingers could be seen upwards at a right angle. As long as the moon and the sun exist, the importance of sati will remain. In the later period, the practice of sati jai was stopped and the carving of satishila was also stopped.

Khokri Arebic Inscriptions-
In front of Murud Janjira fort was a village called Khokri near Kharshet, a barren village east of Rajpuri. It has a large stone shrine-like structure of Indo-Saracenic style. It contains the tomb of Siddhi Sirur. Two Arabic inscriptions are found here near Yakut Khan’s tomb and Khairiyat Khan’s tomb.

Kuda-Mandad Caves Inscriptions-
At Kude Mandad, 25-27 km further from Murud, there are 26 petroglyph caves of the Buddhist period. About 31 inscriptions are found here. These are inscriptions of high quality. Some of the inscriptions are in Prakrit Brahmi script. Here some inscriptions mention the departure of donors from the port of Mandad. There is no mention of year and date in these inscriptions. But according to the Puralipi feature these articles should be between the years 180 and 250.
